Fussell's Mill was an early 19th century grist mill belonging to the Fussell family. In mid-August 1864, Union forces attempted to punch a hole in the Confederate lines here at Fussells's Mill (present-day Yahley Mill Road in Varina).
The Richmond Battlefield Association purchased the Fussell's Mill tract many years ago and have spent much effort into restoring the miller's house. The house dates to 1860 and thus survived what would be later known as the Second Battle of Deep Bottom.
In June of 2021, the Preservation Henrico - APHA presented a plaque for the miller house. The APHA is dedicated to preserving dwellings in Henrico County which have a historical significance to the county and the nation.
